Michigan is a state in the Great Lakes region of the Midwestern United States. The name is the French form of the Ojibwa word, meaning “large water” or “large lake”. It is the only state to consist of two peninsulas. The Lower Peninsula, to which the name Michigan was originally applied, is often noted to be shaped like a <href=”#Mittens” title=”Glove”>mitten. The Upper Peninsula is separated from the Lower Peninsula by the Straits of Mackinac, a five-mile (8 km) channel that joins Lake Huron to Lake Michigan.

Despite the fact that, it has come to develop a diverse economy, it is widely known as the center of the U.S. automotive industry, being home to the country’s three major automobile companies. While sparsely populated, the Upper Peninsula is economically important due to its status as a tourist destination as well as its abundance of natural resources.

Talking about education, you will find good number of colleges with top notch quality education. The teachers are known around for their teaching qualities. You can start up your career in this field and achieve success.

How you can earn your teaching Credential?

To earn your Michigan teaching credential you will have to complete the suitable quantity of undergraduate coursework and consistent examination, as well as an accredited certification program. It proposes a Provisional Education Certificate, applicable for up to six years, and a Professional Education Certificate, renewable every five years.

You must complete a total of 18 credit hours of coursework in “a planned course of study” beyond the Bachelor’s degree to move from a Provisional to a Professional certificate. Apprentice teachers must also go through an induction/mentoring program for their first three years.

National Board Certification is a method for teachers to reveal consummate information of their field beyond that required for a license. Teachers can become National Board Certified in many different subjects.

The States propose alternative licensure programs for lecturer who does not have the knowledge required for a traditional license. Teachers in these programs typically have their Bachelor’s degree, but may have not taken the necessary education courses to pursue standard teacher certification.

What are the required tests needed to be cleared?

You might know that most states require tests to show competency in Basic Teaching Skills as well as in the desired Subject Area. Michigan uses the MTTC (Michigan Test for Teacher Certification). Depending on the echelon of certification you are seeking, there are three stages to the test: The MTTC Test of essential Skills, the MTTC Elementary-Level qualifications, and the MTTC Secondary-Level qualifications, which need a specific topic, examination depending on the subject you want to teach.

What are the teacher benefits and Retirement?

You as a public school teachers are eligible for retirement benefits administered by Michigan Office of Retirement Services at age 60 after at least 10 years of teaching service, or after serving the five years before reaching age 60. Additionally, Michigan teachers can retire at any age if they have at least 30 years of service
